This project was in collaboration with the Joliet Junior College Vet Tech Program. We created a mural that was about 36 feet in length an was created to not only liven the space but to inspire and remind the students why they are working hard to get their degree.

The mural was created by three of us (Jenn, Ana, and myself) in about one and half summers worth. We worked with the Vet Tech Program to reach out to the community in order to get their pet’s portraits painted on the wall. In total we raised over $1000 profit. All of the profit we made went back into the program to support both the students and the pets in the department. The wall contains 84 pets from alumni, students, professors, and other people in the community.

The three of us, originally part of the school’s small art club, were given this amazing opportunity by Abby Panazzo, the head of the Vet Tech Program. It eventually turned into a two part project pulling into the wall next to it. The project consisted of gathering donors, creating sketches of their pets, planning the layout, mapping the sketches on the wall, painting and of course clean up.

My role in the project was project manager. I helped keep everyone on the same page and maintained communication between the girls and Abby. I also helped in budgeting, researching supplies, organizing the donors, and of course the fun stuff like setting up and painting!

This was an amazing project to work on and I am so grateful that I can give back to a college that gave so much to me. It was great experience to work with a bunch of new people and see my two friends become friends with each other. I had a really great time being able to paint people pets and see the smiles on their faces when it was revealed. Despite battling things like the summer heat, wasps and sunburn, I couldn’t have ask for a more exciting experience.

Here is a little speed paint video!
